Tostada with Olive Oil, Orange and Honey Recipe
In many regions of Spain, breakfast is simply tostada – toasted bread with olive oil, sometimes with something sweet on top. This version with orange slices and honey is especially popular in winter, when citrus fruit is at its best. It’s a quick breakfast that combines crunchy bread, fragrant olive oil and the fresh taste of orange.
This tostada brings a Spanish breakfast classic into your kitchen with just a few ingredients. The combination of fruity olive oil, sweet honey and fresh orange on warm, crunchy bread is simple yet surprisingly sophisticated.
Chef's tips
Use a good-quality, mild olive oil – it really makes a difference here, because you taste it directly on the bread. Don’t skip the tiny pinch of salt: it balances the sweetness and makes the orange flavor pop.
How to serve
Serve on a warm plate so the toast stays crisp a bit longer. Pair with a milky coffee or strong black tea. For a more substantial breakfast, add a small bowl of natural yogurt or a handful of nuts on the side.
Ingredients
- wheat bread preferably country-style or wholemeal - 4 slices
- olive oil good quality, mild in flavor - 3 tablespoons
- orange juicy, preferably seedless - 1 piece
- honey runny - 2 tablespoons
- ground cinnamon optional - 0.25 teaspoons
- salt to enhance the flavor - 1 pinch
Preparation
- Toast the bread slices in a toaster, in a dry pan or in the oven for 3–5 minutes, until golden and crisp.
- Peel the orange, remove the white pith, then slice it into thin rounds or half-moons. If there are seeds, remove them.
- Place the hot toast on a plate. Drizzle each slice generously with olive oil.
- Arrange the orange slices on top, slightly overlapping.
- Drizzle everything with honey, sprinkle with a pinch of salt and, if you like, a little cinnamon.
- Serve immediately, while the bread is still warm and the orange is juicy.
