Tartines au camembert et pommes – camembert and apple tartines Recipe
French tartines are simply open-faced sandwiches, but they often look like little works of art. In this version, creamy camembert is paired with sweet apple and a drizzle of honey on a crunchy slice of bread. It’s a quick snack for dinner, a little bite to go with wine, or a warm breakfast in a more “bistro” style.

Ingredients
- wheat bread preferably country-style or a baguette cut lengthwise - 4 slices
- camembert cheese cut into thin slices - 120 g
- apple crisp, slightly tart - 1 piece
- butter soft, for spreading on the bread - 10 g
- honey runny - 1 tablespoon
- walnuts roughly chopped, optional - 20 g
- thyme fresh leaves or a pinch of dried - 0.5 teaspoons
- black pepper freshly ground, to taste
Main Ingredient:
Camembert cheese
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (top and bottom heat) or turn on the grill function, if you have one.
- Lightly spread one side of each bread slice with a thin layer of butter and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper, buttered side up.
- Wash the apple, remove the core and cut into thin slices (you don’t need to peel it if the skin looks good).
- Arrange the apple slices on each slice of bread, then top with slices of camembert so that they cover most of the surface.
- Drizzle the tops lightly with honey, sprinkle with thyme leaves and, if using, chopped walnuts. Finish with a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper.
- Place the tray in the preheated oven for 6–8 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the edges of the bread are lightly browned.
- Remove the tartines from the oven, wait 1–2 minutes for the cheese to set slightly, and serve immediately while still warm.
Storage

Tartines taste best freshly baked. If you have leftovers, reheat them briefly in a hot oven so the bread crisps up again and the cheese softens.
