Turkish Dessert with Yogurt, Honey and Strawberries Recipe

A simple layered dessert made with thick yogurt, honey, fresh strawberries and crunchy walnuts. In Turkey, yogurt with honey and fruit often appears after lunch as a lighter alternative to heavy cakes, especially in summer. It’s a bit like Italian panna cotta served in a glass, but without cooking and much lighter.

This dessert combines the simplicity of everyday Turkish flavors—yogurt, honey and fruit—into an elegant layered glass that looks impressive but takes only a few minutes to prepare. The contrast of creamy yogurt, juicy strawberries and crunchy walnuts makes it satisfying without being heavy.

Chef's tips

Use the thickest yogurt you can find so the layers stay distinct and don’t run. Taste your yogurt and honey together and adjust the sweetness to your liking—some yogurts are more sour and may need a bit more honey. Lightly toasting the walnuts makes a big difference in flavor, so don’t skip this step if you have time.

How to serve

Serve in transparent glasses or small jars so the layers are clearly visible. For a more festive look, add a few extra mint leaves and a thin slice of strawberry on the rim of the glass. It also works well as a lighter brunch dessert alongside fresh fruit and coffee.

Ingredients

  • Greek yogurt thick, plain - 500 g
  • honey runny - 4 tablespoons
  • strawberries fresh, cut into pieces - 300 g
  • walnuts coarsely chopped - 40 g
  • vanilla extract or vanilla sugar - 0.5 teaspoons
  • lemon zest finely grated, only the yellow part - 0.5 teaspoons
  • fresh mint for decoration, optional - 4 leaves
Main Ingredient: yogurt

Preparation

  1. Wash the strawberries, remove the stems and cut them into halves or quarters, depending on their size.
  2. In a bowl, mix the yogurt with half of the honey, the vanilla and the grated lemon zest until smooth.
  3. Coarsely chop the walnuts with a knife. If you have a moment, you can toast them in a dry pan for 2–3 minutes until fragrant, then let them cool.
  4. Prepare 4 glasses or dessert cups. Put a spoonful of yogurt on the bottom of each, then a layer of strawberries and sprinkle with some walnuts.
  5. Repeat the layers until you use up the ingredients, finishing with yogurt and a few pieces of strawberries on top.
  6. Drizzle the remaining honey over the top and sprinkle with the rest of the walnuts. Garnish with a mint leaf.
  7. Serve immediately or chill in the fridge for 30 minutes if you prefer a colder dessert.

Storage

In fridge: 1 days
Freezing: No

Deser najlepiej zjeść tego samego dnia, bo truskawki puszczą sok, a orzechy zmiękną. Przechowuj w lodówce, przykryty folią spożywczą lub pokrywką.
