Spanish baked banana dessert with honey and hazelnuts Recipe

This dessert is a quick way to use up ripe bananas in a style you could easily find in a Spanish home after lunch. The banana is baked with honey and cinnamon, and topped with crunchy hazelnuts. The taste is a bit like warm crêpe filling, but served in a very simple way – straight from the oven, eaten with a spoon from the plate.

A simple, homely dessert that turns very ripe bananas into something fragrant and elegant with just a few pantry ingredients. Baking intensifies the banana flavor, while honey, cinnamon, and hazelnuts add a Spanish-style warmth and crunch.

Chef's tips

Use bananas that are well speckled and very ripe – they become wonderfully soft and aromatic in the oven. Don’t skip the lemon juice: it brightens the sweetness and keeps the flavor from becoming flat. Keep an eye on the baking time so the honey caramelizes at the edges but doesn’t burn.

How to serve

Serve in the same dish it was baked in, with spoons for everyone to scoop out warm pieces of banana, honey, and nuts. Add a dollop of thick yogurt or a scoop of vanilla ice cream and, if you like, a little extra cinnamon or orange zest on top.

Ingredients

  • banana - 2 piece
  • honey - 2 tablespoon
  • hazelnuts chopped - 30 g
  • butter - 10 g
  • cinnamon ground - 0.5 teaspoon
  • lemon juice - 1 teaspoon
  • plain yogurt thick - 100 g
Main Ingredient: banana

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (top and bottom heat). Lightly grease a small ovenproof dish with butter.
  2. Roughly chop the hazelnuts with a knife.
  3. Peel the bananas and cut them in half lengthwise. Arrange them in the dish cut side up.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the honey, cinnamon, and lemon juice. If the honey is very thick, you can gently warm it in a water bath or for a few seconds in the microwave so it becomes runny.
  5. Drizzle the bananas with the prepared mixture, trying to spread the honey evenly over the surface.
  6. Sprinkle the bananas with the chopped hazelnuts.
  7. Place the dish in the oven for 12–15 minutes, until the bananas soften and the honey starts to bubble gently and caramelize around the edges.
  8. Serve the bananas warm, with a spoonful of thick plain yogurt on the side or on top.

Storage

In fridge: 1 days
Freezing: No

Deser najlepiej smakuje na ciepło, zaraz po upieczeniu. Jeśli zostanie, przechowuj w lodówce i podgrzej delikatnie w piekarniku lub mikrofalówce, ale banan będzie bardziej miękki.
